The wish list for Director Julio Flores and the kids includes a new multi-stack gym, new benches and weights, a treadmill and possibly an elliptical trainer, and assorted other accessories. HealthStyles has pledged a percentage of our profits during November and December, along with some time and energy, to make this happen.

So far we have removed the old weight machines and benches from the exiting room, and taken what cannot be used, to salvage. The room has been painted and brightened with pictures and mirrors by the Boys and Girls Club Staff and Volunteers.

On August 7^th HealthStyles Exercise Equipment lost a key member of our team. Gregg Theander had worked for HealthStyles Exercise Equipment for over 16 years and had been a friend to us for over 25 years. He was taken from this world at the age of 48 years old and left two beautiful children, Hope, age 10 and Lane, age 9, four siblings, and many, many friends and associates who loved and admired him very much.

As a small closely knit company, this has hit all of us at HealthStyles very hard, along with many of Gregg’s customers in the Fort Collins and Loveland areas, and dozens of fitness manufacturers, friends and business associates.

Gregg Theander was born in Denver, Colorado on July 16^th, 1963. He had 3 sisters and one brother and grew up in the Denver area, graduating from Bear Creek High School where he grew to love volleyball and played for the varsity team. He then went to East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania on a volleyball scholarship, where his team was one of the top 10 men’s volleyball teams in the country.

Gregg had a love for all sports, fitness and outdoor activities and pursued a recreation degree in college, going on to work at health clubs and recreation centers in the South Denver Metro area before he reconnected with Dave and Jeanne Sheriff and HealthStyles Exercise Equipment. He relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado and opened the HealthStyles Exercise Equipment store in Old Town Ft Collins in 1996. He continued to grow with the company and became a regional manager, opening many stores for HealthStyles through the years.

Gregg was a key component in the training and education of our fitness associates, teaching them about the exercise equipment we sell, how to help meet the customer’s health and fitness needs, and how to provide the best customer service possible. We called it "The Theander University" and would send new employees up to Fort Collins, or have Gregg visit them in their stores, to teach them the HealthStyles Story, how HealthStyles wanted to treat our customers, and to show new employees the kind of attention to detail that he applied to everything he did.

Gregg was a true leader and an asset to our industry. Gregg had the personality to make everyone that he was around feel comfortable, and he had the ability to be your friend and support arm, regardless of the request or need. We all sincerely miss Gregg and his passion for our industry, his depth of knowledge within specialty fitness, his love for his family and children, his teamwork and customer service attitude, and his always inquisitive thirst for knowledge.

Some of the dozens of comments that have been received by us since the news of Gregg’s passing are below, and give a wonderful snapshot of what a special friend and employee he was.

Gregg was a tremendous individual to learn from as I had the pleasure of working with him directly for a 3 month period when I first started with HealthStyles over 6 years ago. I called it the Theander Institute of Higher Learning and never have I been so impressed with someone’s dedication to the retail fitness business and to its customers. Gregg always made it a priority that we are in the business of helping people. He was the best at doing that and it was effortless for him to convey that to anyone regardless of what that customer was like. Probably the most important lesson he taught me was even on the slowest of days, there was always a smile on his face and he always kept his head up.

Gregg was a great mentor to me, Gairett and Josiah, teaching while also throwing us into the fire. He was patient in the learning process and celebrated when I completed my first sales transaction, first financing deal and ran up my first credit card sale. I first met Gregg in 1985 when we were both fresh out of college. While reading entries about Gregg on Facebook, and listening to people speak at his service. It occurred to me that you could measure Gregg’s impact on peoples’ lives by the number of them that considered him their best friend. I certainly considered him mine.

My father passed away exactly 1 week before Gregg. Gregg wrote a nice entry in the Denver Post obituary column about my father and I called him to thank him. We talked for a while and Gregg’s last words to me were "I’ll be thinking about you". That was Gregg, always putting other people before himself. He was always there for you.

We were building floor models late one night when he asked me if we were "going to get rich" doing this. The training studios have been a part of the two stores for about four years now, and have been quite successful from referrals and word-of-mouth marketing alone. Both stores noted a definite increase in sales, particularly at the Boulder location where there’s an especially thriving fitness market.
