The Johnny G Krankcycle by Matrix

Posted in Commercial Fitness on July 29th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

Kranking provides a new way to build aerobic capacity and upper body strength while burning calories and building core stability. Since it utilizes the upper body instead of the legs, it represents a unique cross-training opportunity for athletes of all types.

Kranking is fun, intuitive, and easy to learn. It can be used alone on the cardio floor, with a Personal Trainer, and can be performed in a group setting. It represents an unprecedented opportunity for physically challenged individuals and welcomes a wide range of “special populations” with open arms.

Indoor Cycle Review

Posted in Commercial Fitness on July 28th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

After researching several brands and models on the indoor cycling bike market, Healthstyles Exercise Equipment has chosen the Schwinn, Tomahawk, Vision and Lemond indoor cycles to sell to our customers. We feel that to be at the very top in the industry a bike must provide the rider with a great ride and the facility with the assurance of quality craftsmanship. The Schwinn quality and tradition of performance and workmanship is clear in its line of indoor cycles. Schwinn has four excellent models to choose from, the reasonably priced Schwinn IC Pro is the perfect all around bike for most indoor cyclist’s needs. Tomahawk (Livestrong) by Matrix Fitness is a bike that has been proven over the years. The Belt drive is quiet and the adjustments are precise. If Lance Armstrong will put the Livestrong name on the bikes they must be good. Matrix Fitness currently offers two models in the Livestrong lineup. Vision Fitness also has a spin bike that makes its mark in the “bang for the buck” category. Visions bike has all the adjustments as the more expensive bikes but at much less out of pocket cost. Vision is a belt driven bike and only has one bike to choose from. Lemond fitness makes the RevMaster spin bike that has been built by one of the best cyclists of all time, Greg Lemond. The bike is by far the most precise bike for adjustments and has a handlebar that resembles a Tri-Training bar. Lemond has two bikes to choose from and both are belt driven.

Chain drive: Using a chain means we don’t have to compromise on bike performance. A properly treated chain can last as long as the bike frame doesn’t slip and allows more resistance with less component stress.

Belt Drive: belts require a greater amount of tension than a chain does. This can create stress on the bike components and add significant drag to the system. While they are quieter, they also can stretch become brittle over-time, and have a tendency to slip under heavy loads/resistance. Belts are gaining ground and will only keep getting better.

At age 96, golden years shine with gold medals

Posted in Motivation on July 28th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

Are you having trouble staying motivated to work out on these lazy summer days? Well the next time you find yourself making excuses for not doing your daily run or bike ride, think "What would Leland do?" and get moving!

At the USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Leland McPhie, age 96, competed in the shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump triple jump, high jump, and 100 meter dash. He won all events in the 95 and older division because there were no other entrants.

His 37.16 second finish in the 100 meters was a new American age-group record.

Bob Fulton, a 70-year-old multi-event athlete from Ft. Collins, Colorado told the Sacramento Bee, "He’s 96 and he’s not sitting in a chair somewhere. … I’d love to see more people do what he does. I think it’s going to catch on.”

Posted in Fitness Tips on July 8th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

Things were much less complicated 30 years ago when I was a high school athlete just learning the basics of running. The science of running was just getting started back then and knowledge was somewhat limited. Today there are many dedicated researchers, scientists and coaches that are constantly refining training methods. Stretching and flexibility is one of the fields that have grown more complex in recent years.

Vision Fitness Retailer Spotlight – HealthStyles Exercise Equipment

Posted in News on July 7th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

HealthStyles Exercise Equipment adds a little something extra to two of their store locations in Boulder and Denver – a fully functional personal training studio. "There are lots of health professionals and personal trainers in the area," explained Brad Libbrecht, manager of the Boulder store. "We had the space, and decided that adding the training studio component would create more synergy, increase traffic and sales inside the store, and create more of a fitness-centered, community environment." Libbrecht had previously managed a health club for more than seven years, and had a good understanding of operating a personal training department. After an initial meeting with prospective trainers in the area, HealthStyles was able to create an environment that appealed to both trainers and clients. Many clients especially enjoy the semi-private space, as it eliminates membership fees and crowded health clubs.

The training studios have been a part of the two stores for about four years now, and have been quite successful from referrals and word-of-mouth marketing alone. Both stores noted a definite increase in sales, particularly at the Boulder location where there’s an especially thriving fitness market. Accessories have seen the biggest sales spike since the studios opened, as trainers recommend certain strength or fitness accessories for their clients, available for purchase in the next room! Often, as a client completes their training session, they will exit through the store and begin looking through the extensive selection of accessories and fitness equipment; many even going on to purchase a Vision machine. Others may come into the store looking for fitness equipment and be pleasantly surprised to see a personal training studio as part of their visit. "Many times customers will come and say, ‘Oh you have personal trainers available here too?’," said Libbrecht. "It o ffers that whole package of a true commitment to getting and staying healthy and fit. We’re selling professional results."

Runner’s love to run. Warm up and cool down routines aren’t usually high on a distance runners priority list. Even though warming up and cooling down isn’t the most enjoyable part of running training a proper warm up and cool down is a necessary part of your training program.

Discover a New Cardio Comfort Zone

Posted in Fitness Tips on July 7th, 2010 by Healthstyles Exercise Equipment

It’s always healthier to make small, gradual changes to your exercise habits than trying to become an overnight marathoner. But there’s a difference between baby steps and babying yourself. Taking it too easy can set you up for failure because you won’t make enough progress to keep you motivated. If you stay within your comfort zone and walk the same pace and distance every day, your body will become accustomed to the routine, therefore more efficient at that workout. One of the keys to keeping your body working hard is continuing to keep your body guessing.
